It is time to get to the heart of our problems. Here's more regarding the Oct. 14 letter, "Democrats created Social Security, Medicare." What is wrong with demanding that Congress reinstate the Social Security retirement fund we once had all our contributions in? This time, it should be overseen by a lay group in addition to the politicians so that it could not be taken for other expenditures without our vote. Then, funds should only be borrowed for a certain time with an interest rate. Those are our personal contributions. Instead, we are being taxed so that we have enough money to pay ourselves our own money. We're taxed two or three times, so let us now have our own fund.
Moreover, is it not time to question why we make such a fuss over charter schools? The public has been sold on how great they are, so why not run all schools by the same standards? What is so special about the children who go to them? If the government is funding them, they should belong to all. If these schools give a good education, we should be getting for that for all students with the vast school taxes we pay. Let's get real and demand what we are paying for, there should be no elites in this system. We should do the best for all, period.
If more money is needed, eliminate those time-wasting programs we buy whenever the feds want to teach us something they think is new. Also, lets get rid of those extra pay allowances teachers get for various reasons. Also, turn a deaf ear to the teachers' union demands for more teacher salary raises. When other public employees do not get a raise, none should get a raise. Why do we find money for teachers but not for others?
