Medication bottles may present ID theft risk

Feb 3 2011 - 3:08pm

To further protect someone from identity theft, before discarding doctor prescribed medicine bottles in the garbage, consider removing the entire label. These contain vital information such as name of person receiving the medication, name of doctor, pharmacy and its telephone number, directions for use, medicine name and medicine identification number. Some labels are easy to remove, others are almost impossible, especially those coming in the mail. On those, information can be obliterated by using a black permanent pen marker.
