Lawmakers who voted for HB477 betrayed our trust

(UNEDITED) Thank you, Standard Examiner, for your editorial of Friday, March 4, and for page 12A of the same paper, Utah legislators are turning the lights out." You did try to get your readers to sit up and take notice. Yet again the few (Utah legislators) have attempted to diminish the ever-diminishing liberaties of the many. If the governor decides to sign the bill, it will be law and another sad example of bad government of and for the people. I read a quote recently by Lord Acton, an English historian of the 19th Century: "There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it." These elected men and women who voted for HB477 have betrayed their office and the trust of their constituents. Now, will the constituents do anything about it?
