(UNEDITED) Did you mean to do it or was it a simple oversight? As you sat in church did you feel good about donating food to the food bank to help those less fortunate? Now I can understand perhaps a few items slipping by that were expired, things happpen. But today as I sortted what I had received at the food bank this past Thursday I had to throw out eighteen cans of food and numerous boxed and bagged items as well. The workers at the food bank tell me that they have to throw out literally tons of food on a continious basis.I am a single mother of two and that was alot of food which I could not feed to my childern. Am I lazy? No. I work. I volenteer as a teacher at my church. I volenteer for DWR teaching fishing to childern at our local community pond in Roy. I volenteer at my childern's schools. To receive help from the food bank you have to qualify financially.
As I sit waiting for my monthly share I look around at the people around me. Each one of us is choking on the "pride pill" we had to swallow. There are people from every ethinic background and every age. The people who help us treat us with dignity and respect. They are polite and helpful. In other words, they treat us as if we were Christ himself.
So next time there is a food drive please remember this letter and that there is someone, most likely a child or an elderly person who will be extermly grateful for your generosity.
