I became a naturalized citizen ten years ago because I wanted to have a positive impact on my community and have a say in policy making by using my vote. Even though as a liberal-minded independent woman my voice is not often heard in Utah, it is still important that I share my opinion through voting and be involved in the process by which laws and rules that govern my life are created. I was saddened, disappointed, and a little embarrassed that at the redistricting committee meeting held at Ben Lomand High School this past evening, a total of 20 people attended, and of that 20, Rep. Menlove, the Box Elder County clerk and my five-year-old son were included.
Absent were city and county representatives and absent were the VIP's - the citizens. I ask those of you who are feeling disenfranchised to take those feelings and transform them into action and get involved!
