Bountiful officials stalled on sign ordinance change

BOUNTIFUL — City leaders have reached an impasse over a plan to lift a seven-year ban on electronic message signs.

City council members debated for more than an hour last week the merits of a proposed change in the city’s sign ordinance addressing electronic message centers. Mayor Joe Johnson and City Manager Gary Hill then attempted to break the deadlock by establishing some common ground, but no vote was taken on the proposal. The council is expected to take up the issue again in June.

Pleasant View ordinance change business signs

PLEASANT VIEW -- An exception to home/occupation sign conditions was recently approved by council members. The change allows a business sign on an outbuilding for a photography studio, rather than on the home on the property located at approximately 835 W. Pleasant View Drive.

Bob Dempsey, who is the owner of the business said his photography is all digital and he will not be using chemicals.

LAYTON — Davis County’s largest city recently lost a bit of its history, when the city council voted to repeal a vagrancy guideline dating back to the 1800s.

Weber commission seeks input on ordinance changes regarding temporary signs

OGDEN — Weber County Commissioners have requested input on proposed ordinance amendments regarding temporary signs.

Commissioners initially reviewed the amendments, which are separated into two parts to cover Ogden Valley and unincorporated Weber County, during their meeting Tuesday morning. They opted to request more input.

The initial need for the amendments started when the Weber County Planning Department wanted to put together a brochure instructing political candidates on the regulations for their political signs.

Centerville modifies parking ordinance

CENTERVILLE – In an effort to keep city streets free of excessive numbers of vehicles, the city council modified its parking ordinance. The city now has the state definitions of vehicle and motor vehicle included in the “whereas clauses” of the ordinance.

Cat licensing fees may not be required in Syracuse after all

SYRACUSE — Proposed revisions of the city’s land-use ordinance do not include a cat licensing fee.

City officials moved to strike language in the ordinance for feline licensing during a recent city council meeting to consider land-use changes. Dogs will still need to be licensed.

CLINTON — Cats in this city do not need to be licensed, according to an amendment to an amendment.

SOUTH WEBER -- A proposed wind energy ordinance that would allow commercial businesses and residents to harness air power on a conditional-use basis is leisurely blowing its way through the political process.

ROY -- Pawn shops will be few and far between in Roy, as city leaders plan to pass an ordinance that will limit pawn shops to one per 10,000 residents.

Changes in Ogden ordinance may curb bites, reduce stray dog numbers

OGDEN -- City officials hope proposed changes in the animal ordinance will curb dog bites without targeting specific breeds.

The city council is considering amendments to the animal control ordinance that would change registration requirements for what the city determines to be a dangerous dog, establishes additional insurance requirements for dogs that are unaltered -- meaning not spayed or neutered -- and increases fees for dangerous dogs and unaltered dogs and cats.
