Wild Wednesdays presents "Snow! Snow! Snow!" at the Ogden Nature Center from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. today. How many words can you use to describe snow? Come find out during our special winter program. Discover how animals use snow to travel, build homes, and even hide from predators. Don't forget your hats, gloves, and snow boots. Meet in the Visitor Center.

Wednesday Morning Hikers: 9 a.m. today. Join us every Wednesday morning through April 1, 2010. These outings are open to everyone, including families of all ages. A sled will be provided for young ones during snow season. Be prepared to snowshoe, if necessary. These outings are tons of fun and guarantee a good time. Snowshoeing: Saturday in the Snowbasin area. This is a moderate round-trip trek that takes 3-4 hours and is 6 miles. We will snowshoe to the Ogden overlook that has great views of Snowbasin, valleys, and Ogden. Call Larry at (801) 731-3701 for more information.

Christmas Bird Counts: 8 a.m. Wednesday at Bear River Refuge. Meet at 8 a.m. at McDonald's (1838 W. 2700 North, Farr West) for breakfast or at 8:30 a.m. to carpool. Also 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ogden area. Meet at 7:30 at the Country Market Restaurant (take 1100 West north from 21st Street to the Flying J/Conoco Plaza on your left) for breakfast and to get your assignment.

The Division of Utah State Parks and Recreation has developed and is seeking public comment through Jan. 10, 2010, on a draft strategic plan for its statewide boating program. The plan is located for review online at: stateparks.utah.gov/planning. Hard copies can be reviewed at the State Parks Office at 1594 W. North Temple, suite 116 in Salt Lake City.
The boating program provides funding and other support for boating opportunities found throughout the state. The draft plan identifies issues relating to boating facilities, opportunities and management in Utah and will make recommendations to guide program managers for the next 10 years.
The planning team consisted of enthusiasts from the various types of boating recreation, boating program managers, facility managers, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, State Division of Wildlife Resources and other agencies.

The Fillmore Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input through Jan. 7, 2010 on a proposal to increase Special Recreation Permit fees at Little Sahara Recreation Area in order to cover rising operational costs. The proposal would eliminate single-day passes and increase fees to $25 per vehicle for two-day passes, $40 for seven-day passes, $120 per vehicle for annual passes, and $65 for annual passes for additional vehicles. Senior citizens would continue to receive a 50 percent discount.
The need to increase fees is documented in the Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan, which is available online at www.ut.blm.gov, or by request from the Fillmore Field Office.
