Wild Wednesdays: 3:30-4:15 p.m. today. "Owl Tales". Are owls really wise? Get the answer to that question and many others as we meet three different owls and decode the mysteries that surround these amazing birds. Meet in the Visitor Center.
Preschool Discovery Days: "Frozen Landscapes: Crystals, Cakes & Snowflakes". 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday. Preschoolers wil discover the complicated patterns of crystals and snowflakes as they enjoy hot cocoa. Songs and stories will help preschoolers learn how plants and animals adapt to the Ogden Nature Center's frozen landscape. Meet in the LS Peery Education Building. Also offered 11 a.m.-noon and 1-2 p.m.
WEBER PATHWAYS
Wednesday Morning Hikers: 9 a.m. today and every Wednesday morning through April 1. These outings are open to everyone including families of all ages. A sled will be provided for young ones during snow season. Be prepared to snowshoe, if necessary. For outing location, please call Tracey at (801) 776-1713. Hound Hikes: 9 a.m. Saturday. Great exercise for you and your furry friend. Bring a leash, poop bags, water (for you and poochy), and a good attitude. Dogs must be kept under control at all times. For questions and meeting locations, please call Krista at (801) 391-2222.
OGDEN SIERRA CLUB
Snowshoeing in Mill Creek Canyon area: Saturday. This is a moderate round-trip trek that takes three to four hours and is five miles. We will go up Bowman Fork to White Fir Pass. Call Larry at (801) 731-3701 for more information.
North Fork Park/Cross-country ski: Feb. 28. Skiing from the south gate of North Fork Park. Approximately five miles round trip. Meet at Rainbow Gardens at 9 a.m., car pool to North Fork Park. Call leader Dan H. at (801) 479-1108 for details, and in case there's a change of plan due to snow conditions.
WASATCH AUDUBON
Bird Walks: Today at Willard Bay. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at McDonald's (1838 W. 2700 North, Farr West) for breakfast, or 9 a.m. to carpool.
Feb. 24: Ogden River Parkway. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Inn (322 12th) for breakfast, or 9 a.m. to carpool.
Field Trip: 8 a.m. Saturday. Annual Bald Eagle Count. Meet at 8 a.m. at the DWR Office (515 E. 5300 S., South Ogden). This is a great opportunity to see bald and golden eagles. Bring a lunch. We will stop for breakfast at the Spring Chicken Inn in Morgan.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Banff Mountain Film Festival tour will be in Logan Thursday and Friday night to show selected films from the annual festival. Showings will be at 7 p.m. both nights at Kent Concert Hall on the Utah State University campus. Ticket prices range from $8 to $12. Call (435) 797-3264.
The Beehive Rock and Gem Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Ogden-Hinckley Airport Terminal. A guest from the Northern Utah Prospector's Club will talk about placer gold methods of prospecting in the desert and mountain areas. Included will be discussions on collecting small garnets, tourmalines and other gems. The club will also plan its 2010 field trips calendar.
