Ogden-Weber Tech students garner 23 medals at competition

OGDEN -- Students at Ogden- Weber Tech finished the state SkillsUSA competition with 23 medals, 11 of them gold medals that qualify the winners to compete this summer at the organization's national competition in Missouri.

OGDEN -- The Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College career fair drew a good-sized crowd on Tuesday, but unlike last year's fair, participants had elbow room.

On Friday, 20 community leaders met for the first time to discuss the greater Ogden-area economy. The agenda was to consider the current business environment, the selection of significant goals to be achieved over the next five years and projects in progress.

Internships benefit high school students, Standard-Examiner

Lesson: Disability not a boundary

OGDEN — Mike Taylor would like people to understand a few things that are crystal clear to him:

People with disabilities need to know they can find employment if they work hard and get really good at a skill that interests them.

And employers need to know that disabled people make great employees because they love their job, they are rarely late or unfocused, and they know the value of a job, so they are loyal.

OWATC budget funds its purposes

OGDEN -- The Ogden Weber Applied Technology College board of directors has approved a budget for the 2011-12 school year that features more funding for specific purposes, but no wiggle room.

Power company awards scholarships

The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has awarded Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College Foundation a grant in the amount of $3,000 to fund scholarships for students in the electrical trades, President Collette R. Mercier announced.

Quality upgrade: Children’s School at OWATC receives $36,000 grant

OGDEN -- Nearly 100 children enrolled at The Children's School at Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College soon will play in the shade and sit on new furniture.

The school recently received a $36,000 quality environments grant from the Office of Child Care/Department of Workforce Services and the Federal Child Care Development Fund for remodeling, equipment and materials.
