Paraglider hurt after crashing in Draper backyard

DRAPER -- A 57-year-old paraglider was injured after crash landing in a backyard in Draper.

(Photo courtesy of Eli Whitman) A man whose paraglider crashed east of Ogden had to be rescued from the mountain and is recovering from two broken ankles, authorities say. Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther says the 31-year-old man was running to take off from Malans Peak about 7:15 a.m. Friday when he crashed. The paraglider was with three friends who helped carry him several hundred yards to an area where a medical helicopter was waiting. Lowther says the wind may have shifted to cause the paraglider to go down instead of out as he was preparing for takeoff.
