Debate intensifies over livestock undercover filming

DES MOINES, Iowa — Animal welfare groups reacted with outrage Wednesday after the Iowa Legislature made the state the first to approve a bill making it a crime to surreptitiously get into a farming operation to record video of animal abuse.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Nicholas Genovese is a lab-coated collection of incongruities.

He's being bankrolled by an animal rights group to make meat.

The molecular biologist is working in a lab at a land-grant university that pulls in millions in grants for its research on livestock. Yet the money backing him pushes the desire to end the use of animals as food.

Animal rights groups 'outraged' at bill

CLEARFIELD -- Alley Cat Allies, a national advocacy organization, is taking action against a Top of Utah legislator and his proposed bill regarding feral cats.

Based in Bethesda, Md., Alley Cats Allies, which claims to be dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats, is just one of the animal-rights organizations that are opposed to Utah House Bill 210. The organization has started an action center against the proposed bill by Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield, which would change the state's animal cruelty law to allow the killing of feral animals, pests and rodents.

PETA, Davis County make settlement

FARMINGTON — The Davis County Commission has approved a $17,732 settlement with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for a year-old lawsuit centering around dogs and cats the county at one time supplied to the University of Utah for lab research.
