Ex-Raptor Trayvon Robinson says he was 'really hurt' by Dodgers' trade decision

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Trayvon Robinson was riding the team bus in New Orleans last July when his cell phone rang. The caller was DeJon Watson, the Los Angeles Dodgers' assistant general manager.

"I've got good news and bad news," Watson said. "You've been traded to the Boston Red Sox."

"What's the good news?" Robinson replied.

Ex-Raptor Guerra on the rise in Los Angeles

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is hoping Javy Guerra can build on his strong rookie season.

Guerra was promoted last May and went 2-2 with 21 saves in 23 chances and a 2.31 ERA. But Mattingly isn't ready to call the 26-year-old right-hander an established closer.

Ex-Raptor Prince Fielder free to offer his talents to a new team

MILWAUKEE -- The five-day window when the Milwaukee Brewers had exclusive negotiating rights with free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder is now closed.

There was no ground broken by either side during that period, which was hardly surprising.

Grand Junction will join Pioneer League

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Grand Junction will soon be home to a Colorado Rockies' farm club.

The Grand Junction Rockies will begin play in 2012 at Suplizio Field after the city council approved a 15-year lease with stadium owners late Monday. The Pioneer League team will move from Casper, Wyo., where it's known as the Casper Ghosts.

The Monfort Investment Group, headed by Colorado Rockies general partners Charlie and Dick Monfort, bought the team in January.

Dick Monfort says the Rockies are excited to be bringing the team to the Western Slope.

2011 Raptors fell short, but put on a show

OGDEN -- Another season of Raptors baseball is in the books and despite a less-than-perfect finish, the boys in blue earned their spot among the Pioneer League's elite.

Like its 2010 predecessors, Ogden made it to the postseason after capturing the division title at the halfway mark and defeated the Anaheim Angels affiliate Orem Owlz 2-1 for the Pioneer League South Division pennant.

Language no barrier for Raptors' Nishijima

The Ogden Raptors don't want to lose any games in translation.

When manager Damon Berryhill or pitching coach Bill Simas makes a visit to the mound, sometimes he takes a translator with him or calls one in from the infield.

While Ogden's cadre of Latin American ballplayers provide their own translation services, Japanese left-handed pitcher Kazuki Nishijima has the help of translator Yamato Asahi.

Closure eludes Raptors in Game 2

OGDEN -- Orem's Daniel Vargas-Vila pitched six perfect innings as the Owlz avoided elimination from the Pioneer League South Division Championship with a 5-2 win over Ogden at Lindquist Field on Saturday night.

The 1-3 West Florida native struck out nine and held Ogden hitless through 6 1/3 innings as Orem tied up the series forcing a third game slated for this afternoon.

"The bottom line is he came out at us," Ogden Skipper Damon Berryhill said. "He hit his spots well and pitched a great ball game. Offensively, we really didn't show up."

Ogden logged a single hit until the bottom of the ninth inning and ended with a total of four on the night.

Raptors snatch opener from Owlz

OREM -- Noel Cuevas' two-run single in the seventh inning proved the difference as the Raptors grabbed a series-opening 3-2 road win over the Orem Owlz in the Pioneer League South Division Championship on Friday night at Brown Ballpark.

Derek Cone (3-3; 5.03 ERA) started on the mound for Ogden at Brent Brown Ballpark and went 51âÑ3 innings allowing two runs and six hits while striking out five.

With a 7-9 record against the Owlz this year Ogden nabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Joc Pederson hit his 21st double of the season and drove in second baseman Scott Wingo for his league-leading 65th RBI.

Raptors get back to .500 in 2nd-half finale

CASPER, Wyo. -- The Casper Ghosts were worried about Joc Pederson.

They should have paid attention to O'Koyea Dickson as well.

Dickson, Ogden's slugging first baseman, ripped a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to power the Raptors to a 9-4 victory over the Ghosts on Thursday night at Mike Lansing Field.

Raptors victorious in tune-up for playoffs

CASPER, Wyo. -- Despite rapping 11 hits, the Ogden Raptors scored five unearned runs in the the fifth inning to snag a 5-2 win over the Casper Ghosts in Pioneer League Wednesday night at Mike Lansing Field.

As Damon Berryhill's Raptors fine-tune their attack for the playoffs, the meaningless game was a good win in that it affords Ogden a chance to reach .500 for the second half of the season, and build momentum toward its South Division playoff series with weekend with Orem.
