2 pipeline workers in hospital after explosion

RIVERDALE — A fire crew and environmental team responded Wednesday afternoon to a report of an oil leak in the vicinity of 671 West and 4400 South near the Weber River in Riverdale.

GOP embraces showdown over oil pipeline, tax cuts

WASHINGTON — Sensing a political opening, congressional Republicans are moving toward a high-stakes showdown with President Barack Obama over a plan to link fast-tracked approval of an oil pipeline to a measure renewing a payroll tax cut.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the proposed Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to Texas will help the president achieve his top priority — creating jobs — without costing a dime of taxpayer money.

Farr West, resident in dispute over who pays for piping

FARR WEST -- A drainage ditch that needs to be piped at 2904 W. 3600 North is causing concerns for the city.

Mayor Jimmie Papageorge said the city has offered to pay half of the costs for the piping, with the property owner paying the other half. He said the owner is not willing to pay half and said the city should pay for all of it. Papageorge said the issue will be on an upcoming city council meeting agenda.
