Plain City approves new design

PLAIN CITY — The city council finally approved a design for the new building and bowery at Town Square Park.

Councilwoman LaFray Kelley had asked the council to consider a design that included 12 extra feet of storage for a sound trailer, but her motion to that effect died for lack of a second.

Councilman Bruce Higley moved to have the bowery design include restrooms and two storage areas, but without the 12 feet of extra storage. Kelley voted against the motion, but Higley and two other council members voted to approve the design.

Plain City to trade in old backhoe

PLAIN CITY — Council members approved the trade-in of a backhoe and purchase of a new backhoe.

Plain City subdivision given final acceptance

Homestead subdivision was given final acceptance by council members.

Tom Miller, a partner in the subdivision, said everything has been done to comply with the city requirements other than paving work, which can’t be done until the weather warms.

Council members gave the final acceptance with the stipulation $8,000 be held in escrow until the paving work is completed.

Plans for Town Square Park tabled

PLAIN CITY -- Council members cannot seem to agree on whether to include storage in the improvements at Town Square Park, so the item was tabled for the Jan. 19 council meeting.

Plain City considers rerouting its sewer pumping process

PLAIN CITY -- The elimination of one lift station and the rehabilitation of another was discussed at a recent city council meeting, and the city is considering rerouting the sewer pumping process through the city.

New Plain City council members sworn in

New city council members Joel Maw and Mark Lowther were sworn in at a recent council meeting. LaFray Kelley was reappointed for another term as a councilwoman.

In other business, the assignments for council members were reviewed. Mayor Jay Jenkins is representative with Bona Vista Water and also judicial matters, risk management, insurance and safety.

Kelley was assigned to work on Founders Day, the arts council, grants and coordinating grants with other departments and working with volunteers. Jenkins said Kelley has done very well overseeing volunteer committees in the past.

Plain City council OKs partial release of funds

PLAIN CITY -- The city council recently approved a request from the developers of Plain City Meadows for a partial release of escrow funds to pay the bill for chip seal and crack seal in the subdivision.

Plain City council members thanked for service

Mayor Jay Jenkins thanked outgoing council members Brett Ferrin and Paul Hodson for their service on the council.

Jenkins said Ferrin had always been the voice of calm and reason in his four years of service and said Hodson helped the city by stepping in to fill the void when Councilwoman Beth Koford resigned a few months before the end of her term. He said he was grateful for the service given by both councilmen.

Hodson said it had been a good experience as he learned more about what goes on in the city. Ferrin stated he had enjoyed his time spent on the council.

Council accepts bid for roof repair

PLAIN CITY -- A bid of $15,000 by WB Roofing to re-shingle the roof of city hall has been approved by the city council.

Plain City Poo-Gloos due for new line

PLAIN CITY -- The city has had Poo-Gloos for four years now, but the wastewater treatment devices are having a problem with a sluggish sewer line and will need to be replaced, Councilman Brent White said.

Plain City's Pioneer Park now virtually complete

PLAIN CITY -- Pioneer Park is essentially complete and ready for use, Councilwoman LaFray Kelley said, adding that the only thing left to be done is the striping of the parking lot.

She said she has submitted documentation for the RAMP grant that helped create the park, and the check for the RAMP grant should soon be in the mail to the city.

In other city business, Kelley said the Weber County Work Release group will work throughout November to clean up detention ponds, rake leaves and clean up at Town Square and Lee Olsen Park as well as around City Hall.

Plain City candidates taking on growth

PLAIN CITY -- Five candidates, including one incumbent, are in the race for three at-large seats on the Plain City Council. They see themselves as gatekeepers of what they refer to as "responsible growth."

Koford steps down from council

PLAIN CITY -- Councilwoman Beth Koford announced in a recent council meeting that she is resigning because she is moving from Plain City.

"I found out this week that I am going to have to move by the end of September, so I will not be able to serve my last three months," said Koford.
