SALT LAKE CITY — A woman suspected in an armed robbery has been shot dead in a Salt Lake City neighborhood in a confrontation with police.

MURRAY — Authorities say Murray police shot and injured a 37-year-old man who was carrying a pellet gun they initially thought was a handgun.

Ogden police building renamed for Officer Francom on one-year anniversary of his slaying

OGDEN — On the one-year anniversary of his death, Jared Francom’s home away from home was named after him.

Biggs, 41, was shot in the eye in South Ogden, treated at an area hospital and is now in Weber County Jail. Officials discuss recent police shootings in conflicts with motorists

Since October, the Top of Utah has seen three shootings involving an officer and a motorist.

Two of those cases are still under investigation, with the most recent case having happened Dec. 18 in Ogden.

Officer shoots, kills man in Taylorsville

TAYLORSVILLE — Officials say a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of the Department of Workforce Services building in Taylorsville.

Police: Man rams Ogden patrol car twice, is shot, rides rims to Logan, surrenders to K-9

OGDEN — A man shot by an Ogden police officer late Tuesday night, sparking a high-speed chase through three counties, was caught in Logan after law enforcement personnel tracked down his disabled vehicle.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting and has not released of the name of the man wounded at The Gate at Canyon Ridge apartment complex on Valley Drive.

Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said Wednesday he has two investigators assigned to the case and will bring in other officers from other agencies in the county to assist.

Ogden to rename public safety building in honor of slain officer

OGDEN — Jared Francom’s name will now be a permanent fixture in the city where he served.

On Tuesday night, Ogden city and the city council passed and adopted a joint resolution to rename the Ogden City Public Safety Building the Francom Public Safety Building.

The building at 2186 Lincoln Ave. houses administration for both Ogden’s police and fire departments.

ENOCH — Police say a 19-year-old man has non-life threatening injuries after being shot by Enoch police in Southern Utah.

Sunset officer cleared in Oct. shooting

SUNSET — The Davis County Attorney’s Office has cleared a Sunset police officer in the shooting of a 42-year-old man in October.

Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings issued a letter on Friday, saying the Oct. 8 shooting of JC Ramirez inside his home was legally justified.

In the letter, Rawlings wrote that the use of deadly force was proper, justified and consistent with the letter and intent of Utah Code ... as well as signifcant cases the Utah States Supreme Court on this issue.

Ramirez has a court hearing set for Thursday before Judge Jerald Jensen.

Hearing set for woman shot in eye by Morgan deputy

FARMINGTON — The 41-year-old woman shot in the eye by a Morgan sheriff’s deputy is scheduled for a court hearing on Monday.

Box Elder deputy cleared in fatal shooting of motorist (video)

CORINNE — A deputy was justified in the fatal shooting of a motorist who tried to run him over with a car, Box Elder County Attorney Stephen R. Hadfield said Friday.

Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Bowcutt felt his life was in danger and his only option was to use deadly force against Troy Clark Burkinshaw, 52, of Sandy, Hadfield said in the five-page report.

The report details what led up to the shooting. About 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26, Bowcutt was driving west on State Road 13 east of Corinne in a marked sheriff’s office truck when he observed Burkinshaw urinating in plain view, just off the westbound lane of the highway, next to a dark blue Volkswagen Jetta.

Records: Woman shot in eye after chase punched Colo. parks officer last year

FARMINGTON — The 41-year-old old woman shot in the face by a Morgan sheriff’s deputy on Sunday had punched a Colorado State Parks officer a year ago.

According to Colorado court records, Kristine Nicole Biggs, of Whitewater, Colo., had entered guilty pleas in November 2011 to menacing, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol. She was placed on three years’ probation Dec. 9, 2011.

As part of the plea agreement, if she completed the probation without any further problems with the law, the convictions would be dismissed.
