Utah Gov. Herbert to face GOP challenger

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Gov. Gary Herbert will face a challenger from within his own Republican Party.

Ryan Nielson, a 33-year-old small-business owner, says he plans seek the Republican nomination for governor this spring.

Nielson has no previous political experience, but says it's time for new leadership.

Herbert faces a special election this fall to fill out the remainder of former Gov. Jon Huntsman's term. Herbert took office in August after Huntsman resigned to become U.S. ambassador to China.

Nielson is the only Republican so far who has said he will challenge Herbert. Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon is seeking the Democratic nomination.
