370M Indians swelter in heat after power fails

NEW DELHI — Northern India’s power grid crashed Monday, halting hundreds of trains, forcing hospitals and airports to use backup generators and leaving 370 million people — more than the population of the United States and Canada combined — sweltering in the summer heat.

No cause found for brief power outage

OGDEN — More than 2,600 people in Ogden were without power Thursday afternoon.

A power line went offline around 3:34 p.m., leaving 2,648 customers without power, said Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Ohler. A crew patrolled the line but could not find a reason for the power being off. It got the power back on at 4:05 p.m.

Power outage at Freeport Center sends workers home

CLEARFIELD -- Three circuits at a Clearfield substation serving 4,000 customers, including the Freeport Center, lost power early Thursday for just over an hour, resulting in workers at the industrial park being sent home.

Snowstorm leaves 250,000 without power

SEATTLE -- A powerful Pacific Northwest storm knocked out power to about 250,000 electric customers around Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia after it coated much of Washington in ice and swelled Oregon rivers, killing a child and two adults. Besides the outages, the big concern now is more flooding in both states with warmer temperatures and rain.
