Bountiful power plant upgrades on schedule, officials say

BOUNTIFUL — Major components of a city power plant renovation plan are being finalized.

After months of waiting, two new turbines for the city’s power plant on 200 West have been put into place. Now, work to get those power-generating sources situated and tested will begin.

Work to begin on Bountiful power plant

BOUNTIFUL -- Work on phase II of a $25 million power plant upgrade is expected to begin next week.

Crews are expected to begin demolition of a Bountiful City Light & Power Company building on 200 West as early as Tuesday, to initiate construction of a building that will house two natural gas turbines.

One key component of that project was recently advanced when the city council voted unanimously to award a $4.6 million contract to Big D Construction to construct the facility that will house the generators.

Interior asks EPA to delay N. Arizona power plant proposal

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Interior Department is asking the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to delay its decision on pollution controls for a northern Arizona coal plant while it studies the benefits of the plant and impacts of a potential shutdown.

The Bureau of Reclamation under Interior is the majority owner of the Navajo Generating Station near Page. The EPA is considering whether to require future reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions at the 2,250-megawatt plan on the Navajo Nation to improve visibility at places like the Grand Canyon.
