Primary challenges come out of convention

WOODS CROSS — Any notion that the Republican Party has been in power so long in Davis County that the results of elections are almost scripted was turned on its ear Friday night in the party’s nominating convention.

Romney rivals seek SC theme, champion to stop him

CHARLESTON, S.C. — With a week left to halt Mitt Romney from sweeping to a third straight victory, his GOP rivals are struggling in South Carolina for a theme, momentum and most crucially, one strong challenger to consolidate conservatives’ misgivings about the front-runner.

CONCORD, N.H. -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, adding to a first-place finish in last week's Iowa caucuses and establishing himself as the man to beat for the Republican presidential nomination. Ron Paul finished second, with Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum trailing.

Analysis: Romney’s rivals have little time in SC

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and the rest of Mitt Romney’s pursuers still have time to stop his rise in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. But not much. And not all of them.

The reason behind focus on Huntsman, Romney? Their Utah ties

The classic Abbott and Costello comedy routine "Who's on first?" is a fit description for the current up-and-down ratings among the Republican hopefuls seeking the presidential nomination.

And how he sells. “The sleeping giant called ‘we the people’ has awakened,” Cain thunders, pacing the stage in his trademark dark suit, brown fedora and “lucky” gold tie, delivering a rollicking, 45-minute performance that evokes an old-fashioned church revival, complete with cries of “Amen” from his audience.

Affair allegation is Cain campaign’s latest crisis

ATLANTA — Republican candidate Herman Cain declared “Here we go again” as he faced the latest crisis in his presidential campaign: an accusation of a 13-year extramarital affair with an Atlanta businesswoman.
