SAN FRANCISCO -- Privacy watchdogs are urging the nation's top law enforcer to launch a new investigation into Google Inc. after the Federal Communications Commission did not find evidence that the Mountain View, Calif., company broke eavesdropping laws in collecting Internet data from millions of unknowing U.S. households.

Judge rules open court for Hoggan appearances over alleged Roy High bomb plot

OGDEN — Juvenile Court Judge Janice Frost ruled Thursday that all future actions in her court will be open if they are connected with Joshua Hoggan, one of two youths charged with plotting to explode a bomb at Roy High School.

Frost said Utah law and the public’s interest in her court’s decisions outweigh whether Hoggan will be embarrassed, or his ability to be rehabilitated harmed, by public access.

TSA: No more airport naked scanner images

LOS ANGELES -- Say goodbye to naked scanner images.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday that it will begin installing software to allow airport scanners to show objects hidden under the clothes of passengers without creating what appears to be a naked digital image of the travelers.

The full-body scanners now operating at 78 airports across the country use low levels of radiation to look through the clothing of screened passengers to create an image that TSA officials can view to find hidden weapons or contraband.

Utah Legislature repeals HB477

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Legislature voted in a special session Friday to repeal House Bill 477, the bill that redefined and narrowed Utah's open records law.

The final vote to repeal came after the two houses sent the bill back and forth to each other several times to consider changes.

Rep. Dixon Pitcher, R-Ogden, says he voted to gut the state's open records law "based on incorrect information," and showed our reporter, Loretta Park, a sheet of paper he was given that highlighted supposed problems with the state's old GRAMA law.
