Hearing on $65M bond for Weber School District draws none

OGDEN — No members of the general public spoke out against the Weber School District’s proposed $65 million bond Monday night. And no one spoke in favor of the bond either.

The public hearing was not attended by any members of the general public.

“There’s been very little public input,” said Jeff Stephens, Weber School District superintendent. “I’ve made more than 40 presentations to various groups, and the response has been very positive.”

Pleasant View sets public hearing on fund transfer

PLEASANT VIEW — The Pleasant View City Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. June 12 at the city office, 520 W. Elberta Drive, to consider a $200,000 fund transfer from the solid waste fund to the water fund for the 2012-13 fiscal year budget.

F-35 noise a concern to some at public hearing

LAYTON — If one statement summed up public officials’ assessment of the environmental impact of basing F-35 fighter jets in Utah, it was one by Utah Sen. Jerry Stevenson, R-Layton.

Yes, he said, the F-35 will be noisier than the F-16s flown by wings at Hill, but “I don’t believe the noise level of the F-35 is going to cause any ill effects other than we may stand a little straighter when they fly overhead.”

Public hearing set for Wahlquist permit

FARR WEST -- A public hearing has been set for 7 p.m., Thursday, May 3, during the regularly scheduled council meeting at City Hall, 1896 N. 1800 West, to discuss a conditional use permit for the new Wahlquist Junior High School.

A joint work session with the planning commission and city council was also approved for 6 p.m., that night, immediately prior to the council meeting at City Hall to discuss the sensitive land ordinance.

Rezone would shield two Davis farms from nuisance complaints

FARMINGTON — The owners of two certified Utah Century Farms in Davis County are applying to a conservation board to be placed in an agricultural protection zone.

It is the first time in six years such a request has been made in Davis County.

SYRACUSE -- A $3 million sales tax bond proposal coming to voters in November has quietly cleared another hurdle.

City leaders held a public hearing on the bond package Tuesday after posting legal notices for the hearing in the Standard-Examiner as well as on the Utah Legal Notices website.

No one spoke at the hearing, at least during the designated time set for input to be taken. However, city council candidate Karianne Lisonbee asked to offer public comment on the bond during a public hearing on the sale of surplus property, which immediately followed the bond discussion on the agenda.

If you can't physically make it to one of the state's public hearings on roads, you might be able to attend in another way.

This year, the Utah Department of Transportation has begun holding "online meetings" in conjunction with its road meetings held on location.

Hearings set in Farr West for budgets, sewer

Public hearings regarding approval of the 2011-12 budget and revisions to the 2010-11 budget have been set for June 15 during the regularly scheduled council meeting at 7 p.m at 1896 N. 1800 West.

There also will be a public hearing on June 15 regarding sewer rate increases.

Public defender fee fight lingers

OGDEN -- Almost a year and a half after Merlynn Kilfoyle was sentenced to prison for a homicide, the prosecution and the defense are still arguing about his psychological exams.

In court motions, Kilfoyle's public defender argued Weber County still owes $4,300 on the defense bill for psychological exams of Kilfoyle, who suffered mild mental illness. His mental state led to a plea bargain, reducing the homicide charge from a first-degree felony to a third-degree felony.

FARR WEST -- A public hearing has been set for Wednesday to hear public opinion on the possible rezone from agricultural to residential of the M&S Holding Property, approximately 13.9 acres at 2100 North and 2700 West.

Public hearing set for ordinance

A public hearing has been set for 7 p.m. Feb. 3 during the regularly scheduled council meeting concerning a storm drain ordinance. The council meeting will be held at 4160 W. 2200 North.
