County board approves RAMP funding contracts

OGDEN — The Weber County Board of Commissioners approved contracts for 60 Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks projects during its regular Tuesday morning meeting in the Weber Center in Ogden.

Weber County approves contract for Ice Sheet expansion

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission approved a $455,000 contract with Salt Lake City-based FFKR Architects Inc. to design an expansion of the Ice Sheet.

FFKR Architects originally designed the Ice Sheet, which is on the Weber State University campus, just northwest of the Dee Events Center.

Ice Sheet Director Todd Ferrario said the county returned to FFKR to fully integrate the design of the expansion with that of the Ice Sheet and of Weber State.

North Ogden to spend money for Cherry Days fireworks

NORTH OGDEN — It looks like the fireworks are back on at this year’s Cherry Days celebration, but at a different location.

The city council has voted 4-1 to spend $20,000 on a fireworks show for the city’s annual July 4 celebration. Councilman Dave Hulme voted against the expenditure.

Because of a tight economy, the city did not budget any money for Cherry Days for 2012. In years past, the city has budgeted as much as $70,000.

County wants to add rink to arena

OGDEN -- The RAMP Tax Advisory Board has recommended funding to build a new ice rink and multi-sport practice facility at the Weber County Ice Sheet.

N. Ogden seeks RAMP funds to create dog park

NORTH OGDEN -- The city is applying for $77,580 in RAMP grants this year.

One of the biggest changes that will occur if funds are granted will be a new dog park on an acre of Lomond View Park, 220 E. Elberta Drive. The city is requesting $7,200 for the dog park.

The city is also seeking just more than $31,000 for new scoreboards for city parks, $17,000 to refinish tennis courts, and money for Cherry Days, dugouts and an addition to the property where the museum is housed.

OGDEN — Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks tax grant applications are now being accepted at the Weber County Commission Office, 2380 Washington Blvd., Suite 360.

Plain City projects are moving along

PLAIN CITY — The demolition project at Town Square has been completed, Councilwoman LaFray Kelley said recently.

Founders Day in Plain City needs volunteers

PLAIN CITY — Volunteers are needed for Founders Day. Those who are interested can call 801-731-4908, said Councilwoman LaFray Kelley.

Plain City's Pioneer Park now virtually complete

PLAIN CITY -- Pioneer Park is essentially complete and ready for use, Councilwoman LaFray Kelley said, adding that the only thing left to be done is the striping of the parking lot.

She said she has submitted documentation for the RAMP grant that helped create the park, and the check for the RAMP grant should soon be in the mail to the city.

In other city business, Kelley said the Weber County Work Release group will work throughout November to clean up detention ponds, rake leaves and clean up at Town Square and Lee Olsen Park as well as around City Hall.

Auditor: Ogden finances sound despite procedural gaffe

Pleasant View ready to work on walking path

PLEASANT VIEW -- With a $56,000 RAMP grant and $74,000 in capital improvement project funds, the city is gearing up to get rolling on creating a nearly mile-long walking path along Pleasant View Drive.
