Davis County Fair hires new coordinator

FARMINGTON -- Utah County resident Brooks Burr has been named the new Davis County Fair coordinator.Burr, 28, a graduate of BYU with a degree in recreation management, replaces Alli Barnes, who took a job with a Salt Lake City company. Barnes had been with the county for about two years.

Kayaking brothers take on Ogden River's historic flow -- just for fun

(NICK SHORT/Standard-Examiner) Brothers Ben Booth (front) and Chad Booth kayak the Ogden River on Monday. The river is estimated to be flowing at 1,340 cubic feet per second, nearly five times its average flow, even for early May, when the flow is historically higher than any other time of year. The Booth brothers have been kayaking the river for more than 15 years, and Ben Booth says, “It’s more challenging and intimidating when it gets this high, for sure.”
