Two Top of Utah House incumbents face off after redistricting

OGDEN -- A pair of Republican incumbents thrown into the same House race by redistricting both say gaining control of federal lands and using the money for education is at the top of their priority list.

Brad Galvez, of West Haven, faces off against Lee Perry, of Perry, for the House of Representatives District 29 seat, which was formed after a merger of District 2 and District 6.

The two candidates say that, right now, Utah has a one-of-a-kind opportunity to increase funding for education.

FARR WEST -- Rep. Lee Perry will meet with his constituents in the newly created Utah House of Representatives District 29 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Venture Academy Charter School, 1500 W. 400 North.

This legislative town hall meeting is for residents of eastern Brigham City, Perry, Willard, South Willard, Plain City, Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, northwest Ogden, north West Haven and Taylor.

Utah Democrats pay $5,000 for redistricting records

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Democrats are paying a $5,000 fee to obtain legislative records related to the state's redistricting process.

Davis voting precincts lack, well, voters

FARMINGTON -- Two of Davis County's 31 newly proposed voting precincts are in the middle of the Great Salt Lake.

Another 12 precincts have no registered voters in them because the precinct borders encompass only commercial, industrial or undeveloped properties.

Another 14 proposed precincts are home to 100 or fewer registered voters, Davis County Election Coordinator Pat Beckstead said.

Public invited to redistricting talk

CLEARFIELD — At 6:30 p.m. today, several local politicians will discuss the effects of the Legislature’s redistricting efforts.

Among the planned speakers at the Clearfield American Legion Post, 345 Depot St., are state Sen. Jerry Stephenson, Reps. Curt Oda and Paul Ray and City Councilman Mark Shepherd. They also will answer general political questions from the audience after the discussion on redistricting.

Kaysville mayor upset by city split in congressional map boundaries

KAYSVILLE -- About 96 percent of Kaysville residents are now in the 1st Congressional District, while the remaining 4 percent live in the 2nd Congressional District.

And Mayor Steve Hiatt is upset about that.

House, Senate OK map

SALT LAKE CITY -- Late Monday night, a congressional map was approved by the House, 50-19, with five Republicans against and three Democrats voting in favor of  the proposal during a special session.

It was then sent to the Senate for final approval.
