New rules for healthier meals may start next school year

OGDEN -- Utah school districts, including Ogden and Weber, are preparing for a potential food fight that may hit with the August start of the 2012-13 school year and a new government mandate to make lunches more healthful.

Among the new rules is that all students who purchase school

OGDEN -- Is greed still good? That's assuming it ever was good, as declared by a character named Gordon Gekko in the 1987 film "Wall Street."

Body artists seek tighter restrictions in Davis

CLEARFIELD -- About one-third of Davis County body art business owners are requesting that the Davis Board of Health tighten restrictions on its industry to eliminate those operating below professional standards.

Tougher tanning bed laws proposed

CLEARFIELD -- If he were king for a day, Davis County Health Director Lewis R. Garrett would ban anyone under age 18 from using tanning beds because of the health risks.

Instead, Garrett is willing to work through the system and intends to be actively involved during the 2012 legislative session in an attempt to put more restrictions on teens visiting tanning salons.

Garrett said part of that effort will include a push to revisit a 2006 county health policy in which parents are required to accompany their teens to the tanning salon.

New rules target racy Vietnamese cafes in Calif

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- At Cafi Miss Cutie, the windows are tinted but not pitch black. The waitresses are wearing negligees but not naked. And patrons are being urged to smoke outside.

The dimly lit coffeehouse in the heart of Orange County's Little Saigon hopes to get a passing grade when police start enforcing a host of new rules to crack down on illegal gambling and nudity at some cafes starting as soon as this weekend.

Officers plan to make rounds of the 37 Vietnamese cafes in the suburban city of Garden Grove to ensure they don't have arcade games that have been rigged to let patrons bet on blackjack and roulette, and that scantily clad waitresses leave something to the imagination.
