NEW YORK -- The creators of the animated series "South Park" have set their sights on Broadway.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone have written a musical adaptation of the irreverent program, which will be called '"The Book of Mormon."
The show is expected to release in March on Broadway.
The duo wrote the script, music and lyrics, in collaboration with Robert Lopez, one of the creators of the Tony Award-winning musical "Avenue Q."
The work will be led by Parker and Jason Moore, who was also in charge of "Avenue Q."
Producers Scott Rudin and Anne Garefino said Wednesday that the theater, the cast and other details will be announced later.
The Emmy-winning "South Park" series debuted in 1997 on Comedy Central.
