OGDEN -- The public is invited to two free dramatic presentations of "The Hope of Christmas ... Luke's Story" on Sunday.
The first performance will be at 10:30 a.m. at Canyon Road Assembly of God, 1390 Canyon Road, in Ogden.
The evening performance will be at 6 p.m. at Abundant Life Assembly of God, 410 N. Main St., in North Salt Lake City.
"The Hope of Christmas" will feature Tim Wead, of Phoenix, Ariz., a dramatist and professional actor who has had national television roles. Wead will portray Luke from the Gospel of Luke, quoting Chapters 1 and 2.
These chapters tell the story of the birth of John the Baptist and the birth of Christ.
Christmas music will be performed during parts of the drama by a combined ensemble from Canyon Road Assembly of God and Abundant Life Assembly of God.
The quotations will be taken from the King James version, thought by many scholars to be one of the finest pieces of literature in the English language, states a news release on the event.
"Tim Wead's Shakespearian background takes those words and transforms them into easy to understand, conversational language, with power and feeling," states the release.
Bev Wead, minister of music at Canyon Road Assembly of God and whose husband is a cousin of the performer, said she believes the presentations will bring the story of the birth of Christ alive to all who participate as they hear the eloquent way it will be performed.
"Sometimes it becomes mundane to us," she said of the story. "This presentation gives it a whole new meaning. I think it gets the Christmas season off to a good start. It's why we celebrate Christmas."
Bev Wead said Tim Wead's acting was well-received when he performed in local churches before, playing both Jesus and Paul in the New Testament and dramatically quoting many verses of Scripture.
