ROY -- After a year of service to the community, members of the small North Central Baptist Church believe they have a lot to celebrate.
"The Lord's been good," said Pastor Jason Harris. "It's just been exciting to see what the Lord has done."
The church, located south of Auto Zone, at 5800 S. 1900 West in Roy, is inviting the community to its first anniversary celebration Sunday.
Included in the celebration will be a breakfast buffet at 9:30 a.m., followed by an adult, teen and children's Sunday school at 10 a.m.
Worship service will be at 11 a.m.
A Sunday night service will be at 6 p.m., with a fellowship, including cake and punch, after the service.
"It's hard to believe it's been a year already," Harris said.
Harris said his church has had a number of visitors, and several people have joined.
"We had a high day of 85 in attendance," he said.
One way the church has grown has been with the addition of a new van in the past month.
"The Lord gave us a van," Harris said, noting that he was in a conference in Colorado, where another pastor gave him the 15-passenger vehicle to further his work.
"The pastor walked up and handed me the title and said, 'Here you go. I hope it's a blessing,'" Harris said.
The van is for those who want to come to church but don't have a ride.
But Harris said it also will be used to take youths to conferences and similar events.
He said people not only from Roy but from all over the area have come to his new church.
"We've seen many souls come to know Christ as their savior," he said. "Many have followed up with baptism."
Harris said the church has moved from the corner of a warehouse to a strip mall, where it grew from two units to include all four units of the mall. Members also have had to take a wall down to meet their needs.
The church has plans to start the North Central Christian Academy in the building this fall with Harris' wife, Tina, and Joni Tuttle from the congregation working as teachers and a number of others working as volunteers to make the school successful.
The school will follow the national Accelerated Christian Education school curriculum.
"People in the community as well as the congregation are invited to send their children," Harris said.
