City officials reject resignation of police chief in Martin case

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A decision by the Sanford City Commission on Monday to reject the resignation of embattled Police Chief Bill Lee -- just a month after it voted "no confidence" in him -- left critics of the police department's handling of the Trayvon Martin shooting disappointed and angry.

Bill Lee Jr., who had stepped aside as police chief during the investigation of the shooting of unarmed African American teenager Trayvon Martin, has officially resigned as the top cop of Sanford, Fla., a city commissioner said Monday.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Sanford city commission on Monday will vote to approve the resignation of the police chief harshly criticized for his handling of the Trayvon Martin case, just hours after the teen's shooter was released from jail on bond.

Commissioners said in a news release that they would vote at a meeting later in the day to approve the resignation of Bill Lee. If his resignation is approved, Lee will step down at midnight.

SANFORD, Fla. -- Bill Lee temporarily stepped down Thursday as police chief of Sanford, Fla., in the wake of complaints about how he handled the case of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager shot to death by a neighborhood watch officer.

At a televised news conference, Lee announced that he was stepping aside because his leadership has become a distraction and had overshadowed the events of Feb. 26, when Martin, 17, was shot by George Zimmerman.

Millner resigning as WSU president but staying to teach

OGDEN — Weber State University President F. Ann Millner may be stepping down, but she won’t be leaving campus.

Millner, who has worked at Weber State for 30 years, including a decade as president, plans to teach in the university’s Dr. Ezekiel R. Dumke College of Health Professions.

North Ogden faces recent loss of third city official with finance director's resignation

NORTH OGDEN — Finance Director Debbie Cardenas has resigned after eight years with the city. She will take a job as the finance director with the city of Mesquite, Nev. Her last day will be March 23.

Cardenas is the third top city official to resign in the last several months.

Zabriskie resigns as Ogden superintendent

OGDEN -- Noel Zabriskie, superintendent of the Ogden City School District, announced his resignation on Wednesday.

Zabriskie cited personal family matters that require his full attention, according to a news release from the school district.

Utah liquor agency director resigns amid controversy

 

The resignation of Dennis Kellen was asked for and received Wednesday morning by Gov. Gary Herbert, who was alerted to possible procurement law violations in the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
