RIVERDALE — The Riverdale City Council and Redevelopment Agency will hold a strategic planning/budget work session at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Riverdale officials hope new drain system will prevent flood damage

RIVERDALE — City officials have awarded work to repair and prevent damage done by the floods of last spring.

The city awarded a contract to RL Shaw for its $11,766 bid to modify a storm drain outlet box in the River Glen area.

“If and when the floods come again, we can control back water in a faster manner than we did last year,” Public Works Director Shawn Douglas said.

Riverdale officials say tentative budget looks good

RIVERDALE -- City officials are pleased with many aspects of Riverdale's tentative budget for fiscal year 2012-13.

Riverdale Business Administrator Lynn Fortie recently reported that property taxes are not set to increase.

Riverdale official defends RDA meeting expenses

RIVERDALE -- Although some residents are questioning Redevelopment Authority expenses, the city administrator is defending city procedures as showing a commitment to open government.

"It is public business and should be acted upon in a public meeting," Riverdale City Administrator Larry L. Hansen said.

According to a post on the Riverdale City citizens Facebook page, some residents are wondering why the city holds monthly RDA meetings, when some of those meetings only last a couple of minutes.

Riverdale committee urges no-parking zone near splash pad

RIVERDALE — The city’s Risk Management Committee has recommended a no-parking zone on the west side of Parker Drive around Riverdale Park.

Although parking is limited on the north side of the park near the more attractive features such as the splash pad, large pavilion and playground, plenty of parking is available at the Riverdale Community Center and Riverdale Elementary School, the committee said.

RIVERDALE -- Dean Gallegos has been named the acting fire chief after the resignation of former chief Doug Illum.

Torch experiment burns shed to ground in Riverdale

RIVERDALE -- An attempt to make a torch ended up burning a shed to the ground Saturday evening.

Boys were playing with bug spray and matches in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of Highland Drive trying to make a torch, said Riverdale Fire Chief Doug Illum.

RIVERDALE -- City officials have decided the best way to handle neglected bank-owned homes is with controls on water hookups.

"There's no reason for the city to put up with it any longer," said City Administrator Larry Hansen. "We are not going to play this game. We can control the spigot."

The city council voted unanimously to amend both the nuisance and water codes.

Riverdale extends contract for city administrator

RIVERDALE -- By a narrow vote, the city council extended the city administrator's contract through 2014.

City Administrator Larry Hansen's current four-year contract was set to expire June 30, 2012, but the council voted 3-2 this week to extend the contract by two and a half years.

Weber River fire restrictions in place

RIVERDALE -- Fire restrictions have now been placed along the Weber River by Riverdale Fire Department.

Riverdale council positions on November ballot

RIVERDALE — Three of five Riverdale City Council seats are up for election this fall. Each is an at-large, four-year term.

Council members David Gibby, Shelly Jenkins and Don Hunt’s terms will end in December.
