Nine Mile Canyon known as 'world's longest art gallery'

NINE MILE CANYON -- There's a strange juxtaposition in this east-central Utah gem of a canyon: Despite its ruggedness and relative remoteness, visitors on any given day can see large tanker trucks lumbering along its main road as if it were some major industrial route.

Rock art is topic for Sons of Pioneers meeting in Layton

LAYTON — Native American rock art will be the topic at the Sons of Utah Pioneers meeting Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Davis County Library Central Branch auditorium, 155 N. Wasatch Drive.

The speaker will be Laurel Casjens, former specialist with the Utah Office of Museum Services, said Stephen G. Handy, spokesman for the Snow Horse Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.

Casjens received her PhD from Harvard University and has extensive experience in Native American culture and art, Handy said.

Reward offered for rock art vandalism

PRICE -- Bureau of Land Management has partnered with the Nine Mile Canyon Coalition, Castle Valley Chapter of the Utah Statewide Archaeological Society, Bill Barrett Corporation, Eastern Utah Community Credit Union, Jones and DeMille Engineering and Utah Statewide Archaeological Society in offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the conviction of individuals who vandalized the "First Canyon Site" rock art panel in Nine Mile Canyon.

Firm wants pipeline across historic Utah ranch

PRICE -- An energy company is threatening to use eminent domain to build a natural gas pipeline through an eastern Utah ranch that includes Native American artifacts and rock art.
