Students receive $3,000 scholarship based on service

OGDEN — Nine high school seniors and one current Weber State University student are learning the value of service.

The Rotary Club of Ogden presented each of the students with a $3,000 scholarship.

Ogden's assistant police chief announces retirement after 30 years

OGDEN — Assistant Police Chief Marcy Korgenski will retire March 15 after 30 years with the Ogden Police Department.

Korgenski, the city’s first female assistant chief, said she has enjoyed her work in law enforcement but wants to spend more time with family and concentrate on volunteer activities in the Ogden area.

J. Wayne Johnson, 95, died Sunday Nov. 13, 2011, after a brief illness. Services will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 18, at the Brigham City 9th Ward, 236 E. 100 South. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Gillies Funeral Chapel 634 E. 200 South, in Brigham City, and from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Rotary Club asks Herbert to speak

Ogden -- Gov. Gary Herbert will speak to a luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Ogden at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Marriott Ogden Hotel.

The event is open to all Chamber of Commerce members, business and civic leaders and other service organizations. Cost to attend the luncheon is $16 per person and RSVP must be made by Nov. 11 to Kat Shane-Marble at 801-621-8300 or by sending an email to Kat@OgdenWeberChamber.com.

OGDEN -- The Rotary Club of Ogden is holding a "Meet the Ogden Mayoral Candidates Luncheon" at noon Wednesday at the Marriott in Ogden.

Ogden Rotary Club has new president

OGDEN -- The Rotary Club of Ogden has elected Brent Parkin as president for the 2011-12 Rotary year.

Parkin has been a member of Rotary International for nearly 20 years and has served in all levels of the organization. He is the senior general manager for Newgate Mall and has worked for GGP in a variety of positions in the shopping center industry for over 23 years.

Rotary Club gives gift of dictionaries

OGDEN -- Two thousand six hundred third-graders throughout Ogden and Weber school districts are cracking open brand new dictionaries thanks to the Ogden Rotary Club.

Rotary club sets rubber duckie sale

OGDEN -- The Mt. Ogden Rotary Club is selling rubber ducks for the "Rubber Duckie Derby" to be held at noon Aug. 27 at the Ogden River (across from the Prairie Schooner).

The event benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Weber/Davis and provides funds for the "Dictionary Project," in which the Mt. Ogden Rotary Club distributes dictionaries for all third-graders in the Ogden and Weber school districts.

Coats for Kids car show planned in Bountiful

BOUNTIFUL — The Bountiful Rotary Club will host the 13th annual coats for kids car show on June 17-18.

The two-day event, dubbed by organizers as the biggest car show in the state, will include a parade at 6 p.m. and activities on Main Street including a climbing wall, music by “Go Dog Go” and a burn out at 7:30 p.m.
