Boundaries and enforcers help kids to feel secure

I feel bad for kids who don't have parents that hold them accountable.

Recently I was talking to a girlfriend who was telling me about her sister-in-law. This relative has a 16-year-old son who has recently gotten his driver's license. Last week, the school counselor called his mother to say that she'd noticed some recent bad behavior at school and was concerned.

SYRACUSE -- The students of Syracuse High School probably will not be texting and driving anytime soon.

Syracuse High School received a federal grant to stage a mock car accident with emergency personnel at the school to educate students about the dangers of distracted driving, specifically texting while driving and drinking and driving Monday. Reggie Shaw, who killed two men in a head on collision while texting and driving in Logan in 2006, spoke to the high school kids after the demonstration, asking them to make wise choices behind the wheel.

LOS ANGELES -- Federal regulators expanded their efforts Thursday to go after children's jewelry that contains high levels of the toxic metal cadmium by telling parents to throw away "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"-themed charm bracelets.
