BOUNTIFUL -- City officials are conducting an unofficial survey on how to handle a growing deer population within city boundaries.
A survey consisting of four questions regarding possible options for dealing with the problem was included in utility bills being sent out this month. The issue was also addressed in the city's newsletter.
The survey simply asks residents if they feel there are too many deer within the city limits, if they think something should be done about it, if they would support an urban archery harvest of the deer and if they would allow a certified bow hunter on their property to thin the herd during the season.
City Manager Tom Hardy said, in some cases, the deer have penetrated city boundaries to the point of crossing Interstate 15.
