A 10-year-old Layton boy who disappeared Tuesday was found safe Wednesday night, with his mother in California.
The boy's mother, Lashena Wilson, 28, is in a custody dispute with the boy's father and police said she took Robert Pierce IV Tuesday afternoon near Whitesides Elementary School.
The two were found by the Whittier Police Department in California and Wilson was taken into custody on a felony warrant related to the disappearance, said Sgt. Jason Hinojosa, Layton Police Department.
Pierce is under protective custody by Child and Family Services, which is working with the Utah Department of Child and Family Services to return him to his father, Hinojosa said.
Layton police will try to extradite Wilson to Utah to face charges.
