SANDY -- A Utah high school principal has quit amid a racial bias and discrimination probe stemming from a student's appearance wearing a white pointed Ku Klux Klan-style hood at a school spirit assembly two weeks ago.
The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports that Alta High Principal Mont Widerberg announced his retirement Thursday.
Canyons School District issued a statement confirming the retirement with thanking Widerberg for more than 30 years at the Jordan and Canyons districts.
The status of school Vice Principal Mark Montague was unclear. Widerberg and Montague were on paid leave this week, while former Alta teacher and coach Ray Jenson was named acting principal of the high school in Sandy.
District investigators also were looking into other unspecified incidents over the past year.
