Two snowmobilers found safe Monday

OGDEN — Two snowmobilers were stranded for more than five hours before being found early Monday morning by members of Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue near Wasatch Ridge.

The two men, ages 23 and 45, were reported missing around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Monte Cristo area, said Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther.

They became stranded in the snow, built a fire to stay warm and were found without injury around 4 a.m. Monday, he said. Their names were not released.

Rescued hunter had diabetic issues

WILLARD -- A sick, wet dog and a man with issues stemming from diabetes caused three hunters from Weber County to need rescuing from the Harold Crane Water Fowl Management area of Willard Bay late Saturday night.

The hunter with diabetes could not continue on his own, Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Potter said. To compound their problems, one of their dogs became sick.

Ogden woman missing in Alaska found unhurt

An Ogden woman who unexpectedly had to spend a night in the backcountry in Fairbanks, Alaska, is reported to be in good condition thanks to her preparations.

(Photo courtesy of Eli Whitman) A man whose paraglider crashed east of Ogden had to be rescued from the mountain and is recovering from two broken ankles, authorities say. Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther says the 31-year-old man was running to take off from Malans Peak about 7:15 a.m. Friday when he crashed. The paraglider was with three friends who helped carry him several hundred yards to an area where a medical helicopter was waiting. Lowther says the wind may have shifted to cause the paraglider to go down instead of out as he was preparing for takeoff.

MOAB -- Paragliders have ended a search for a missing Moab skydiving instructor without finding a trace of him.

Three men flew motorized paragliders over a 55-square-mile area around Moab on Saturday and Sunday in an effort to find 37-year-old David Brown, said family friend Micaelo Choo of Sandy.

OGDEN -- A California man had to be rescued from the far bank of the Ogden River after he dived in to rescue his girlfriend.

One Scout released, other still in hospital

OGDEN -- A 13-year-old boy who was struck by a boulder during a Boy Scout hike Thursday night was released from McKay-Dee Hospital on Friday, said Davis County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Harper.

Another 13-year-old boy, who was also hit by the boulder, was transferred to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City for monitoring.

"Both boys received severe lacerations to their heads," Harper said.

Helicopters locate suicidal man

OGDEN -- The helicopters flying over the east side of Ogden on Wednesday afternoon were searching for a wounded man.

A 38-year-old man hiked up the trails at Ogden Canyon and hurt himself in a suicide attempt, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther. But shortly after 3 p.m., he had second thoughts and called 911, Lowther said.
