SALT LAKE CITY -- Keith Scott Brown, 55, the father of the 5 Browns recording group, is facing three felony child sex abuse charges.
Brown was charged in 4th District Court on Thursday with one first-degree felony count of sodomy on a child and two second-degree felony counts of child sex abuse.
Court records list the offense date for the sodomy charge and one of the child sex abuse charges as Nov. 1, 1990. The offense date for the second child sex abuse charge is listed as March 1, 1997.
A court appearance for Brown was canceled.
He and his wife were in a car accident Monday night and are still in the hospital.
Authorities say Brown and his wife, Lisa Brown, 54, were returning from a Valentine's Day dinner at Snowbird ski lodge when their vehicle crashed in Little Cottonwood Canyon outside Salt Lake City.
It appears Keith Brown lost control of the vehicle, possibly because of speed, causing him to go off the road, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
It was reported that the two were initially unconscious before Keith Brown awoke with frigid creek water filling the car and called 911.
Emergency responders could not initially find the car because it had plunged several hundred feet down a ravine and trees blocked it from view, Hoyal said. They eventually found the Browns near Seven Turns.
Unified Fire spokesman Cliff Burningham said it took 25 firefighters about two hours to locate, rescue and transport the two to hospitals. They were later listed in serious condition -- Keith Brown with head injuries and his wife with back injuries.
