Competency test ordered for suspect in Centerville shooting

FARMINGTON -- A judge has ordered a mental competency evaluation to be done for a woman who police say had a role in the shooting of her neighbor.

Stewart released from hospital; booked into jail

OGDEN — Matthew David Stewart, who was wounded in a Jan. 4 shootout that killed an Ogden police officer and wounded five other officers, was released Monday from the hospital and booked into Weber County Jail.

3rd competency evaluation sought in Centerville shooting over 'telepathic rape'

FARMINGTON -- The results of a third evaluation are expected to show whether Michael L. Selleneit is competent to stand trial for shooting his neighbor.

Selleneit, 52, of Centerville, appeared before Judge Thomas L. Kay on Thursday. However, prosecutors could not proceed with the case because of conflicting results from two competency evaluations.

4 arrests in connection with gang shooting in Clearfield

CLEARFIELD -- Two teenagers and two adults who police say were involved in a Jan. 6 gang-related shooting have been arrested.

DEA: Indoor pot operations, like that found at home of shootout, are uncommon

OGDEN -- Indoor marijuana operations, like the one the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force reportedly discovered just before a deadly shootout earlier this month at the home of Matthew David Stewart, are not that common, a Drug Enforcement Agency official said Wednesday.

Most marijuana in Utah is grown outdoors, because there is plenty of open land and water sources, according to Sue Thomas, a spokeswoman with the DEA in Salt Lake City.

The main purpose for growing marijuana indoors is to keep the operation secret, Thomas said.

EDINBURG, Texas — Doctors have removed a bullet from the back of a 13-year-old Texas boy shot while trying out for his middle school basketball team in December.

3 killed in shooting at lumber company

Thousands celebrate life of slain park ranger with Utah ties

Prosecutors to seek death penalty in officers' shooting

OGDEN -- Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said today he plans to seek the death penalty against Matthew David Stewart, 37, in the shooting death of Ogden police officer Jared Francom and the wounding of five others.
