Manhunt for man who shot deputy in Nevada

WELLS, Nev. -- A manhunt continues for a gunman who opened fire on police in the northeastern Nevada town of Wells, leaving one deputy critically injured.

Radio station KELK reports the Elko County Sheriff's Office is searching for 43-year-old Peter Coca, who they call armed and dangerous.

Coca is accused of shooting Deputy Lenwood VanNatter multiple times in the chest, hip and legs during a Thursday night standoff. The gunman fired the shots from the roof of his house after police responded to a violent domestic dispute there.

VanNatter was taken to a Salt Lake City hospital, where he was listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Deputies have cordoned off a four-block area of Wells where they are searching for the gunman. School was canceled Friday in Wells as a precaution.
