North Ogden considers more lenient sign ordinances

NORTH OGDEN — The city will revisit its ordinance regarding temporary signs.

New council members have received requests from some businesses — many from Realtors — asking the city to soften the temporary sign ordinance.

Currently the city does not allow any temporary signs in the parking strip except for those advertising city events. It also does not allow temporary signs on private property, such as open house signs, unless they are put up by the property owner.

North Ogden turns attention to temporary signs

NORTH OGDEN -- Use of the space between curb and sidewalk will be inspected by the city council a little more closely in coming weeks as it revisits sign regulations for both businesses and residents.

A public hearing will be held at Tuesday night's council meeting regarding the definitions of community signs, mostly temporary signs placed in the parking strip to advertise one-time community events, such as church gatherings or civic events.

The hearing comes after many in the community want longer use of the temporary advertising. City law states the signs can be there for 10 days, but the council is looking to expand that time frame to 21 days. However, businesses are prohibited from using the park strip for any signs.

Syracuse to review city's political sign ordinance

SYRACUSE -- City officials want to take a closer look at a sign ordinance that limits putting political signs on park strips throughout the city.

Following an extensive discussion of the existing sign restriction, Mayor Jamie Nagle directed staff to come up with a proposed revision of city code, which could potentially allow the placement of small signs in park strips.

Candidates told of sign restrictions in Pleasant View

City Recorder Laurie Hellstrom said any campaigning signs have to be 150 feet from intersections.

Those posting signs also need to get permission from property owners, even in the park strip area according to City Administrator J.J. Allen.

“The adjacent property owner has control of that even on the right of way. We don’t allow any (signs) on public property, parks or city buildings whatsoever,” said Allen.
