Public easement to remain open in Wolf Canyon

OGDEN — Weber County Commissioners unanimously voted today to preserve year-round access on a public easement in Wolf Canyon.

More than 50 residents and county employees attended a public hearing this morning about a request from Powder Mountain to seasonally close the trail so the resort could safely carry out avalanche control, prevent illegal skiing on their property and hold guided tours and back country skiing.
All three commissioners said they did not see why the resort could not carry out safety measures while still preserving public access on the trail.
Gregg Grear, Powder Mountain president and CEO, said the resort will still do avalanche control and hold the tours beginning this year and that the closure was meant as a public courtesy to keep residents safe.
