Supersonic jump breaks sound barrier

ROSWELL, N.M. — Felix Baumgartner stood alone at the edge of space, poised in the open doorway of a capsule suspended above Earth and wondering if he would make it back alive. Twenty four miles below him, millions of people were right there with him, watching on the Internet and marveling at the wonder of the moment.

Skydiver cancels try at supersonic jump

ROSWELL, N.M. — Extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner canceled his planned death-defying 23-mile free fall Tuesday because of high winds, the second time this week he was forced to postpone his quest to be the first supersonic skydiver.

OGDEN -- Skydivers are attending a four-day tunnel camp at iFLY in Ogden to train to become competitors at the United States Parachute Association National Skydiving Championships.

The iFLY experiences gives the skydivers the opportunity to learn body control, including flips, turns and falling with the head pointed down.

Janet Eastman King, born Oct. 1, 1958, in Ogden, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the Washington Terrace Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. before the service. Death of Moab skydiver probable suicide

MOAB -- The death of a champion skydiver whose body was found beneath a cliff outside Moab has been ruled a probable suicide.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The passenger aboard the Northwest Orient flight from Portland to Seattle on Thanksgiving Eve 1971 wore sunglasses, a suit and a polyester black clip-on tie. He politely asked for a bourbon and 7-Up. Then, he handed the flight attendant a note declaring he had a bomb and demanding a $200,000 ransom.

Was this the beginning of a deeply flawed hijacking plan that would end with a suicidal nighttime parachute jump from the Boeing 727 jet by the man who would become known to the world as D.B. Cooper?

Missing skydiver's body found near Moab

MOAB -- The family of a renowned 37-year-old Canadian skydiver missing since late June says his body has been found in southern Utah.
