Utah.gov honored for social media efforts

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah state government has been honored with an award for its use of social media.

The Center for Digital Government named Utah.gov the winner of its Best Fit Integrator award.

The award recognizes the state for interacting with the public through social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Currently, there are more than 200 state departments using Twitter that collectively tweet an average of 20 times per hour.

There are more than 140 state and local Facebook accounts.

The state also uses YouTube, Flickr, blogs, mobile applications, widgets, and RSS feeds to connect with residents. The use of social media has helped Utah.gov achieve an average monthly unique visitor rate of more than 1 million in 2010.
