South Weber traffic incidents trending down

SOUTH WEBER -- Detective John Olsen of the Davis County Sheriff’s Office recently presented a quarterly report to the city council.

Olsen reported there had been 137 law-related incidents last quarter, and that number had dropped to 115 this quarter. Traffic violations also fell from 260 to 147 during that time frame.

Olsen said the city was the “most well-behaved in Davis County.”

Mayor Jeffery Monroe said that once citizens figured there was a black SUV that was a sheriff vehicle in the area, they “slowed down.”

South Weber plans annual Easter egg hunt

SOUTH WEBER - The city’s Easter egg hunt will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Cherry Farms Park, located at 2100 E. 8000 South.

Councilman Michael Poff said more than $400 in prizes and candy will be available to the residents. No fee will be assessed to the public this year.

Robert Osborne named to commission

SOUTH WEBER -- Robert Osborne was recently appointed to the planning commission to replace Mark Perkins.

When asked if the councilman really wanted this, Osborne replied he was “happy to serve.”

South Weber man awaits approval to put wind turbine in motion

SOUTH WEBER — The 24-foot-tall wind turbine attached to Scott Casas’ garage remains still.

The turbine blades have been tied with a bungee cord to prevent them from spinning in the wind.

“All it needs now is an inspection,” said Casas, who claims South Weber city officials have been unresponsive to his request.

South Weber employee earns FEMA certificate

SOUTH WEBER -- Deputy city recorder Emily Thomas received the FEMA Advanced Professional Series certificate from Ted Wooley, of the Utah Department of Public Safety.

This award took Thomas many years to complete because only a few classes are offered each year.

Each councilman extended their congratulations and support for her endeavors.

South Weber approves truck purchase

SOUTH WEBER -- The city council unanimously approved the purchase of a $48,005.44 public works truck and plow.

During the discussion, Councilman Farrell Poll stated, “I hate to see $50,000 spent on a truck to run around and read meters.”

He also said he wanted something “more economical.”

SOUTH WEBER — Burglars are using an old tactic to find out who is home and who is not, deputies said.

Limit placed on S. Weber land developers

SOUTH WEBER -- Councilmen Joe Gertge, David Thomas, and Randy Hilton approved a change to Ordinance 12-08 at a recent council meeting.

This ordinance allows applicants of new subdivisions to have 120 days to act on their request for a new subdivision development.

If the developer goes beyond the 120 days, they must go through the process again of applying for the subdivision and paying the fee.

Joe Gertge selected as new councilman

SOUTH WEBER -- Joe Gertge, was selected by the city council to replace Sara Lusk, who has moved out of town.

Gertge, who took over on Sept. 15, will serve for the next 15 months.

“I saw a website that the councilman was available and was interested,” Gertge said.

Police: No trends in South Weber crime report

SOUTH WEBER -- Davis County Sheriff John Olson recently reported to the city council about criminal activity in the area.

During the first quarter of this year, there were 286 citations in the city. During the second quarter there were only 188 citations.

Olson also reported 143 dispatch calls in the first quarter, with an increase to 160 calls second quarter.

Graduates of CERT program named

SOUTH WEBER -- Emily Thomas, Deputy Recorder of South Weber, announced ten recent graduates of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) Team.

The training consisted of three days of hands-on training in case of an earthquake or other community disasters. All 10 graduates attended the March 27 city council meeting to receive their certificates. The graduates included: Sam Stokes, Aaron Van Noy, Debbie Buckner, Brent Buckner, Vic Barrett, Sara Lusk, John Lusk, Brain Petersen, Kristen Guymon, and Brandon Poll.

Resolution about hens amended in South Weber

SOUTH WEBER -- During the March 27 South Weber Council meeting, a resolution was passed to allow up to 25 hens to be penned on one-half acre of property in a moderate residential area. However, roosters would only be permitted in agricultural areas.

Resident Sam Stokes voiced his opinion and said owning chickens has many benefits such as being a good food source, a good pet, and a good fertilizer. He said chickens created fewer problems than many dogs. Also, he suggested that allowing chickens was a step in the right direction for self-reliance, especially in times of economic uncertainty.

Resident Lynn Thomas said her research of keeping hens indicates that chickens draw rodents, resulting in diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

South Weber plans egg hunt Monday in park

SOUTH WEBER -- The city's annual Easter egg hunt is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Cherry Farms Park, 7900 S. 2100 East. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $2.

SOUTH WEBER — The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is attempting quell near widespread panic from rumors that a man in a suspicious vehicle is stalking children in South Weber.
