Dear Babe: I bought a Roy Campanella autographed baseball bat at a public auction several years ago. The signature is clear and bold on a new bat. As you can see, it also came with a certificate of authenticity from Coach's Corner. The auction was held in 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, N.H. The auction company was Federal Auction from Gaithersburg, Md. Coach's Corner did not organize the auction. The auction had only a few sports items.

Others were "lincensed" by it because "linflated" prices were being paid for Jeremy Lin's cards. "Linvestors" seemed "lincurable." But just as quickly, they became "linsure" of themselves. Dear Babe: From my grandfather's scrapbook, I have Associated Press pictures of Joe Louis and Jesse Owens along with the teletype stories. Joe Louis is on the scales weighing in for a fight with Jack Sharkey who is pictured shaking hands with Louis. It's from Aug. 10, 1936. They are in Yankee Stadium. The Jesse Owens picture refers to his triple win at the Berlin Olympics. It is from Aug. 20, 1936.

Police seek owner of autographed Jazz memorabilia

SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police are trying to find the rightful owner of a basketball and pair of shoes they recovered that were autographed by the Utah Jazz.

Officers say they believe the items had been stolen before they turned up unclaimed in September.

The basketball was autographed by players from the 2004-2005 season. A pair of purple shoes was autographed by Andrei Kirilenko.

Police say they'll require proof of ownership from anybody claiming the memorabilia.
