RSL gains win over Outlaws

Last Edit: Jun 23 2009 - 11:12pm

Standard-Examiner staff jjohnson@standard.netOGDEN ¬Â-- For 45 minutes, the Ogden Outlaws kept the powerful offense of Real Salt Lake from the back of the net.<--!break-->After that, RSL striker Yura Movsisyan took care of business. The fourth-year pro scored twice in the second half and the MLS side cruised to 4-0 result Tuesday against the Outlaws at St. Joseph High School's Lew Joseph Memorial Field."(Ogden) is a young team; they work hard and are getting better," Movsisyan said. "It's important for players at their stage of development to get an experience like this."I feel good. I feel confident. I feel like I'm back to where I should be playing, and I'm working my way up from there."Movsisyan's first strike came just moments after he entered the match at halftime. RSL won a free kick from 20 yards out on an ever-so-slight angle from the post. Movsisyan drove the ball into the lower corner for the 1-0 advantage."It was a great opportunity to play against them," Ogden midfielder Max Malmquist said. "It's definitely a chance to learn things."The teams had faced each other in a controlled scrimmage situation twice earlier this season."When we played against them before, they had us work against them in the formations that their opponents would use," Malmquist said. "This was the first time we've really played them the way we would normally play."Movsisyan made it a 2-0 advantage in the 65th minute, while Tino Nunez made it 3-0 in the 75th minute and Andy Williams rounded out the scoring in the 78th."Ogden is making great strides," said RSL assistant coach Jeff Cassar, who has been assigned to help oversee the Outlaws' training this season.Ogden goalkeeper Jeff Rogers made several huge saves throughout the match, including a block on a header by RSL's Kyle Beckerman."It was a good chance to play against a level that's higher than ours, obviously," Ogden coach Ted Eck said. "The first half, I thought we played really well, kept our shape and made it difficult for them to play."(We had a) couple of objectives," RSL coach Jason Kreis said. "Win (and) look at some different tactical situations and have a good training session. I applaud the guys because I know these games can be very difficult for an MLS team to come into."
