Bees down Bear River at home

BRIGHAM CITY -- There are not many things better to do on a Friday night than to watch a rivalry football game in a packed stadium with screaming fans, and that is exactly what took place as the Box Elder Bees hosted the Bear River Bears.
The Bees came away with a hard fought 17-14 victory over their neighbors from the north.
"Our team played as hard as they could tonight and I feel very good about the effort of my players," first-year coach Robbie Gunter said. "Defensive coordinator Mike Robinson had a great game plan and our defense did a great job of executing it."
The Bees were the first to score as Sean Smith scored on a 54-yard touchdown run, which put them up 7-0. The Bears answered right back as Payton Wells scored from 15 yards out to even the score at 7 a iece at the end of the first quarter.
Bear River came out in the second and scored quickly on a 30-yard touchdown pass from James Taylor to Dax Sedarholm. Box Elder was able to score on a 4-yard pass from Mitch Parrish to Carson Mund just before the half, to go into the locker room deadlocked at 14.
In the second half, both teams' defenses took control, each forcing turnovers and coming up with big plays to keep the score tied.
Box Elder finally broke through on a 40-yard field goal from Jordan Gerfen, to send them sailing into the lead, where they would remain until the end of the game.
