Weber bullies Roy 47-7 on road, improves region mark to 2-2

GAME SLIDESHOW: http://www.standard.net/slideshows/2009/09/18/prep-football-roy-vs-weber-september-18-2009ROY -- It was the double whammy for the Royals Friday night. Their homecoming game came against rival Weber and the schools were playing for the coveted Shield, a tradition that dates back into the 1960s.The game, however, was far from spectacular. The Warriors piled up more than 450 yards of offense and held the Royals to zero offensive touchdowns in a 47-7 rout at Durbano Field."We knew that we needed to step up this week, even after getting the win last week (against Fremont)," Weber running back Cody Van Buren said. "We were coming off a win and knew this wasn't going to be an easy game. We were able to run the ball and do what we wanted on offense."Things started out well for Roy in the game as they moved the ball effectively on the ground, but were forced to punt. Weber took advantage and went 82 yards in six plays, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run from quarterback Dallin Adams. The Royals moved the ball well again on offense, but sputtered deep in Warriors territory only to have their punt blocked, giving Weber a short field. The drive culminated in another Adams TD run, this one from 26 yards out for a 14-0 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter.Weber looked like it might score again, but Roy's Cameron Mckenzie picked off an errant Adams pass and returned it to the Weber 48. However, a three-and-out for the Royals led to a Keaton Scherer 25-yard field goal and a 17-0 lead. David Daines then scored from 15 yards and Van Buren added a 58-yard touchdown and Adams found Bo Thomas on a 12-yard scoring strike and the Warriors carried a 37-0 lead into the locker room.Roy came out with a spark in the third quarter when Shane Olney recovered a fumble in the Warriors in the end zone for a touchdown to cut the lead to 37-7.But that was it for the Royals offense as the Warriors added another touchdown and a 35-yard field in the second half."Defensively, we had a couple of automatic calls against their offense and it put us in good position to makes plays," Weber linebacker Mason Moore said. "We played well and now we are getting to where we need to be and that is making a push for the playoffs."Daines and Van Buren led the offensive attack for Weber, combining for 300 yards on just 19 carries and two touchdowns. Adams also added two rushing scores. Roy was led by Colton Scadden again as he had 46 yards rushing and 57 receiving.
