Bobcats, Bulldogs win tennis tourneys

OGDEN -- Sky View edged Mountain Crest and the rest of a balanced field to claim the Region 5 girls tennis team championship in action at Ogden High School.

Following Friday's final round, the Bobcats tallied 53 points, followed by Mountain Crest (44), Box Elder (34), Ogden (33), Bonneville (32) and Logan (29).

At No. 1 singles, Box Elder's Kristie Jensen topped Sky View's Hannah Phillips, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Jensen had gone undefeated through region dual play and topped Phillips 6-0, 6-1 last Monday, but the Sky View standout pushed Jensen to a third set.

Box Elder's Michelle Braithwaite topped Bonneville's Brooke Williams 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 to capture the No. 2 singles title. Mountain Crest's Anna Anderson topped Ogden's Heather Halverson 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Sky View's Bekka Wallentine and Nicole Hanks topped Ogden's Nicole Anjewierden and Emily Steele 7-5, 6-4, while Sky View's Taylor Geldmacher and Lizzy Wilkey topped Ogden's Lara Greenleigh and Meridith Tribe 6-1, 6-2 to win No. 2 doubles.

The top finishers at the region tournament will now prepare for the 4-A North Divisional on Friday and Saturday.

Judge Memorial wins Region 11 title

Judge Memorial edged Juan Diego and defending champion Bear River to claim the Region 11 girls tennis tournament title last week at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park.

Bear River and Juan Diego tied for second overall, while Ben Lomond claimed fourth.

Judge's Mikella Mancini defeated Ben Lomond's Mandee Miller at No. 1 singles, Juan Diego's Justine Davis topped Grantsville's Taylor Orgill at No. 2 singless and Judge Memorial's Emily Murnin topped Juan Diego's Blake Holding at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Judge's Claire Hollingsworth and Chloe Rubner defeated Jenny Palmer and Anae Mauldin of Ben Lomond, while Morgan's Kess Clemens and Hailey Jensen topped Judge Memorial's Ali Clayton and Alyssa Corbett at No. 2 doubles.

The top performers competed in the 3-A North Regional this past weekend.

Mascot Bowl tonight in Lehi

The sixth annual Mascot Bowl, hosted by Lehi High School's sports marketing program, will be staged tonight at the school's football stadium.

The event is designed to raise money for the "Firemen and Friends for Kids" charity, established to offer underprivileged children the opportunity to shop for presents at Christmas-time.

A Lehi little league football team will be taking on an All-Star Mascot team, coached by celebrity coaches Kyle Beckerman and Chris Wingert, Real Salt Lake stars.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with an autograph session. Fireworks will be held following the game.

Tickets are $3 (children ages 2-and-under are free). Lehi High School is located at 180 N 500 East in Lehi, just West off Interstate 15.
